Dan Casey to learn Celtic clash fate as Motherwell red card appeal date set after boss brands it worst decision EVER

Motherwell will discover if they have won their appeal over Dan Casey’s controversial red card against Kilmarnock on Tuesday afternoon.

The defender was sent packing by referee Chris Graham in the second half of the 1-1 draw for violent conduct after pushing Killie’s Danny Armstrong, but furious Well boss Stuart Kettlewell this morning (December 23) described the decision as the worst he’s ever seen in a game he’s been involved in.

Well fired in an appeal on Monday morning that will be heard by a fast track tribunal at 4pm on Christmas Eve - with Casey’s place in the squad to face Celtic on Boxing Day on the line. Speaking about the decision this morning, Kettlewell said: “Sometimes you can see it through your own tinted goggles. For me I’ve not spoken to one person who has seen that the same way as what the outcome was. And I’ve had contact from other clubs, people who have been in the game a long time. So one individual has seen it that way.

“I think that’s wholly unacceptable. I don’t think you can ever see that scenario where it’s cut and dry, I find it baffling. After the game I said it was in the top three worst decisions from games I’ve been involved in - on hindsight I’ve looked at it again and composed myself and it is genuinely the worst one I’ve seen.

“It’s worldwide on TV, we’re trying to give the best account of ourselves. We never played particularly well but I don’t think that kind of decision does the game in this country any favours whatsoever."
