Dan Burn impressed for Newcastle v Wolves
Newcastle United enjoyed a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night and Dan Burn was one of many players who impressed. The 29-year-old started alongside Fabian Schar at centre-back and helped limit Wolves to only five shots over the 90 minutes, just two of which were on target.
After being on the wrong end a 5-1 scoreline against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Burn finally kept a clean sheet. The 6ft 6in defender hadn’t shut out a side since late February, so he’ll be glad that run is over. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Burn a player rating of 9/10 and said he delivered a ‘quality’ display.
Sean Walsh of 90min gave the 29-year-old a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘unbothered’ by the threat of Wolves. Trincao and Hwang Hee-Chan didn’t register a shot on target or create a chance before being hooked in the second half, so Burn and Schar can take credit.
Against Wolves, Burn played for 90 minutes, had 64 touches, won five aerial duels, completed 82.1% of his 56 passes, created one chance, had one shot on target, found a teammate with 33% of his long balls and made four clearances. No player won more in the air than Burn, so fans will have enjoyed seeing him back to his best after the Spurs debacle.
