Damian Priest says Superstars groan at celebrity involvement in WWE

Damian Priest has opened-up on the concept of celebrities competing at WrestleMania and says fans are not alone at groaning at their appearances.

WrestleMania has had a long relationship with celebrity involvement dating back to the very first event when A-Team star Mr T teamed with Hulk Hogan in the main event. Since then, the names of Lawrence Taylor, Floyd Mayweather and Snooki have all been part of the WrestleMania festivities. 

This year too, we’re set to see both Johnny Knoxville and Logan Paul in action in Dallas and one WWE Superstar had revealed how the locker-room feels when they see a celebrity competing at WrestleMania. 

Speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports Damian Priest admits he lets out the same groan as fans when the hear of a celebrity entering their world.

Being honest, just like the fans, when you see an outsider you [groan]. Just because we’re so passionate about it. Not that we have a problem with that person. We’re just passionate about our business. We like it being treated as such.”

Priest is of course no stranger to the crossover, having teamed with rapper Bad Bunny at WrestleMania last year to defeat the team of The Miz and John Morrison. However, the Archer of Infamy explains how the music star came to be accepted by the WWE Superstars, including Randy Orton.

Someone like Bad Bunny coming in, of course, there are going to be eye rolls and whatnot. But then you see the other side and it’s like, ‘Oh, no. He’s one of us.’ Seeing things like, for instance, we were walking backstage. At that time it was the Thunderdome. Randy Orton stops because he was crossing like us, he stops and says, ‘Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for showing us the respect like no other. People don’t usually do it
