Dalbeattie Running Club's winter season 2023/24 concludes

Dalbeattie Running Club’s winter league season continued in December with a trip over to Southwick for a mix of road and trail runs.

There were two options for runners to tackle, a three and a five mile course, and whilst the weather was not kind with heavy rain for part of the way, this did not dampen the enthusiasm for the races.

More than 20 runners took part in the event kindly hosted by Fran. First home was Lewis, who trains with the club and showed his excellent potential. First lady home was Kim, who is improving with every race.

The last Wednesday track session of the year was a 5km relay between two runners and was accompanied by wall to wall Christmas music. Runners were greeted every 50m or so with music blasting out and this made the event a really fun time.

The final winter league race of the year was held at the Carlingwark Loch parkrun. Conditions were dry, but the going was pretty soft. This didn’t deter the fancy dress runners from making a good go of the course, and many thanks go to the volunteers who do a tremendous job at the parkrun. First home again was Lewis in an excellent time of 19.20m. First lady home was Kim again in 25.51 who also won the best dressed runner on the day, notching up another 15 points for her league score.

During the last week before Christmas runners were asked to bring an item to training for the local food bank in Dalbeattie and they did not disappoint. The mountain of food was delivered to Dalbeattie Community Initiative’s community pantry.

The next event is the Heartstone run in Dalbeattie Forest on January 28, starting at 10.30am from the old primary school in Dalbeattie. This will be the fourth event out of six for the winter league.
