Dad-to-be and heavily pregnant wife 'forced to sleep in their car'

A man claimed he and his heavily pregnant wife were forced to sleep in their car due to issues with their home.

Dad-to-be Hiwa Abdulrahman and his wife, who is expecting their first child in May, said their flat in Toxteth has been plagued by damp and mould issues since June 2023, the Liverpool Echo reports. They said they have also been 'intimidated and insulted' by people causing anti-social behaviour.

Hiwa, 40, said he and his 31-year-old wife slept in their car for four nights in February 2024 after feeling 'unsafe'. He said Torus housing - the housing association that manages the flat - put them in temporary accommodation on February 11, where they remain.

He added that they do not want to return to the flat and want to be permanently rehomed. Torus, the housing association which manages the couple's flat, said the damp and mould issues were 'caused by a blocked external rainwater drain' and it has since 'undertaken works to resolve and if access is given, they are due to be completed next month'.

They added that they take 'all reports of anti-social behaviour seriously'. Speaking to the Echo said, Hiwa said: "I want us to be moved because my wife has now got a phobia about living in our house.

"We have been intimidated, insulted and we have complained about all of these things. We reported it a long time ago. It's over a year we've been having ASB problems and since then Torus are still dealing with the situation."

Torus said said they are 'actively engaged with the tenants and Merseyside Police'. Following the first leak, in June 2023, Hiwa claimed it happened again in July and September, resulting in mould growing,
