Dad-of-four suffered 'unsurvivable' brain injury after punch, inquest hears

A dad-of-four died after being punched and banging his head, an inquest has heard.

Paul Ologbose, 57, was taken to Salford Royal Hospital following an incident in Leigh on January 23, police coroners officer Neil McCaffrey told Bolton Coroners Court.

A CT scan revealed that he had suffered an 'unsurvivable' brain injury and Mr Ologbose was later pronounced dead.

"Mr Ologbose was admitted into hospital on January 23 2022," Mr McCaffrey said.

"He had been punched while out in Leigh, which caused him to fall and bang his head.

"It caused a head injury and subsequent cardiac arrest.

"He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where a CT scan showed an unsurvivable brain injury."

Home Office pathologist Dr Charles Wilson carried out a post mortem on Mr Ologbose's body and recorded the cause of death as a 'head injury'.

Paul Brierley, 43, of Hendon Street, Leigh has been charged with manslaughter and is due to appear at Bolton Crown Court on February 28.

Senior coroner Timothy Brennand adjourned the inquest, while criminal proceedings take place.

Mr Ologbose was born in Partington but lived in the Higher Folds area of Leigh and worked as a window cleaner.
