Dad high on drugs beat ex-girlfriend and her brother with a mallet

A man beat his ex-girlfriend and her brother with a rubber mallet in a violent attack.

Jason Whinnett drank brandy and smoked cannabis before going to the home of his partner’s brother and attacking them both.

The 51-year-old also smashed up a coffee table and a TV during his attack on January 17 this year.

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday how Whinnett had received upsetting news prior to the attack but then reacted by taking it out on his now ex partner, whom he had never before assaulted.

Matthew Conway, prosecuting, said Whinnett went round to his ex partner’s brother’s house just after drinking and taking drugs.

Once he was in the house he then punched his ex partner numerous times before picking up a rubber mallet that was in the hall and hitting her with that as well.

He then turned to her brother and hit him on the back and chest and then used the mallet to damage the coffee table and TV in his living room.

Finally, he attacked his ex partner again, biting her chest and leaving visible marks, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Whinnett only stopped when a neighbour who heard the attack came round to the house and he was later arrested by police.

Mr Conway said the woman had refused to give a statement to police about the attack while her brother said he and Whinnett were friends and that his behaviour was shocking and out of character.

Charles Lander, defending, said Whinnett had expressed shame and disgust in himself in the weeks since the attack.
