D’Tigress ’ll survive ‘group of death’– NBBF

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is optimistic the Nigeria senior female basketball team, D’Tigress, will scale through what has been termed ‘group of death’ in their FIBA Women’s Olympic qualifiers.

The four-time Africa champions will have their hands full as they seek ticket to their second consecutive Olympic Games basketball event in Paris next year. They will face United States of America, host, Belgium and Africa giants, Senegal in Group B of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament, which will take place in Belgium. The draw was released on Thursday.

The matches will be played from February 8 to11, 2024.
Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, a member of NBBF’s Media Committee as well as Premier League
Management Committee, Maxwell Kumoye, said that the D’Tigress have a mixture of young and experienced players who are capable of picking the Olympics ticket.

“As African champions, the D’Tigress is one of the most formidable teams in the world of basketball at the moment, and I see them picking the ticket to Paris 2024 Olympics. I don’t have any doubt in my mind that Senegal will pose a threat to us. I don’t also see Belgium stopping us.

“As World champions, USA is already through to the Olympics Games, meaning there is only one slot to fight for in the group. I see the D’Tigress picking it. But I must admit we are in a tough group,” Kumoye stated.
