Cyriel Dessers to Rangers transfer still ON as Italian claims shot down with striker keen on Ibrox switch

Cyriel Dessers remains keen on a move to Ibrox and is waiting for Rangers to make another offer.

Reports in Italy claimed the Nigerian international had turned down a switch to Ibrox. Sources close to all sides of the deal are adamant that is not the case. Dessers is very much keen on a move to Scotland and for the chance to play in the Champions League.

Rangers have already made multiple bids for the striker but have still to reach an agreement with Cremonese. The Ibrox side are expected to go back in for the 28-year-old but won’t be rushed into a deal. They have made several six figure bids but Cremonese, despite their relegation from Serie A, want more than the £6.5million they paid to get him from Genk last summer. Dessers - who is a long-term target - has been aware of Rangers’ interest for some time.

Rangers have already done a lot of early business. They have signed Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Kieron Dowell and bought Sam Lammers from Italian side Atalanta.

It is likely that the club will move some of their squad players on before they go into the next phase of their rebuilding process. Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo is one of those targets, along with Swansea winger Morgan Whittaker.

Rangers are still at the table with regards bringing Malik Tillman back to Ibrox, although that is now looking increasingly unlikely. The Light Blues have the option to buy him as part of their loan deal from Bayern Munich.

If Tillman returns to Munich or goes elsewhere then Rangers would net more than £1million and a future sell-on - as part of that initial deal that former sporting director Ross Wilson struck with the Bundesliga giants.
