Cyriel Dessers reveals key Rangers change that sparked title turnaround a month on from 'difficult moments'

Cyriel Dessers insists revved-up Rangers have the momentum and mental strength to pull off a stunning title turnaround - just a month after fearing it was slipping away.

Dessers’ first half double was key to Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Ross County that drew Philippe Clement’s side level with leaders Celtic on points and goal difference. It sets up a titanic tussle for the Premiership crown with 13 games to play including two Old Firm derbies. And after trailing by eight points less than a month ago the Ibrox hitman is confident Rangers can keep their foot to the pedal.

He said: “I think that is clear. Since the gaffer came we have only lost one game and drawn three. We have won more than 20 games. That is pretty good momentum. The most important thing is to keep this going, to keep this positive vibe. Even if something happens, don’t let it put you off. We are in a good way, we are working hard, our ideas are clear. We just need to keep going.”

Rangers slipped eight points off the pace after losing the new year derby at Parkhead and had to wait until after the winter break to start clawing that back. Dessers admits the gap at the half-way stage brought some concerning times in the dressing room. But those have been blown away in the last four weeks.

The Nigeria international said: “There were some difficult moments that’s for sure. If you are eight points behind I can tell you the atmosphere in the locker room is not as nice as it is just now. But in training we could see the individual qualities.

"Then it was all about forming a team with a bond and getting back into shape and form again. You can see now a few months later what we are capable of. I think there is still some, maybe not a lot, growth left. We are growing
