Cusack Park to be renamed Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg in new sponsorship deal

Cusack Park is to be renamed following a new commercial partnership between Clare GAA and American firm Zimmer Biomet.

The iconic venue in the Clare capital will be known as Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg for the next three years, and it is understood there is an option to extend the partnership for a further two years.

The name change also marks an official move away from the English spelling of Chíosóg, which according to sources is an important detail for Clare GAA, as Michael Cusack never personally used the English version of his name.

Micheál Chíosóg, one of the founders of the GAA in Thurles in 1884, was a native of Carron in North Clare in the heart of the Burren and has several GAA venues that take his name, including the Cusack stand in Croke park, the home of Clare GAA in Ennis and Cusack Park in Westmeath.

Zimmer Biomet in Shannon has been a major employer in Clare for the last 16 years. The company has another facility in Galway and specialises in the manufacture of orthopaedic medical devices, including dental implants and prostheses for joint replacements.

The American based firm employ around 1,000 people in Ireland.
