Cumbernauld Colts 'victims of our own success' as boss sees summer exodus

Cumbernauld Colts boss David Proctor reckons they have been victims of their own success in the Lowland League with a host of key players leaving the club this summer for bigger moves.

The Broadwood outfit finished fourth in the fifth tier this season, having sat second behind champions East Kilbride for long spells, and their impressive showing hasn’t gone unnoticed with Proctor facing up to a summer rebuild now that SPFL sides are set to snap up some of his best talent.

He said: “There has been a progression in the squad and the club in general. It has been a remarkable achievement to go as well as we did last season and now we have to push to maintain those standards, which is the most difficult thing.

“These are big players that we have to replace so it is a case of looking at what is out there and replace like for like so we can push on again.

“We’ve still got a good core in Graeme Holmes, Cammy Dickson and Billy Mortimer, although he is injured a will miss the start of the season.

“We hope he gets back before the end of the calendar year and it will be like a new player coming in when
