Crystal Palace 'want to keep' £12.6m 'homegrown talent' at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace will not ‘want to hear’ that other clubs are interested in defender Tyrick Mitchell, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 22-year-old is enjoying a stellar campaign after becoming the Eagles’ first-choice left-back this season and had been tipped to receive a call-up to the senior England setup before narrowly missing out.

After rising through the ranks of his boyhood club, Mitchell made his first-team debut back in July 2020 but was forced to play second fiddle to Patrick van Aanholt for large portions of last term.

However, following the Dutchman’s departure for Galatasaray over the summer, the academy graduate has stepped up admirably in the current campaign.

Mitchell has started all of Palace’s 29 Premier Leagues games so far throughout 2021/22, registering two clean sheets and playing a pivotal part in their eight clean sheets, the eighth-highest total in the top-flight.

As per WhoScored, the youngster has been the south London outfit’s fourth-best performer in the league this season, achieving an overall rating of 6.79.

And when looking at his underlying numbers, it’s easy to understand why.

Mitchell has averaged 3.1 tackles per league game, more than any of his teammates, while also recording 1.2 interceptions, 2.6 clearances and 0.6 crosses, placing him in the top four for each metric amongst his colleagues.

Although the impressive full-back hasn’t been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park just yet, Palace do have a history of selling their top young talents.

The likes of Wilfried Zaha and Nathaniel Clyne have departed before eventually returning, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka departed for Manchester United after fewer than 50 games for the capital club.
