Crystal Palace: £18m star targeting World Cup spot 'happy' at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi is ‘happy’ at Selhurst Park and will not feel he has to move onto pastures new in order to become an England regular, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Eagles defender made the £18million switch from London rivals Chelsea last year and will be targeting a place in the Three Lions’ squad which heads to Qatar for the World Cup next month.

Having been called up by England boss Gareth Southgate for the Nations League clashes with Italy and Germany, Guehi would have gone into the international break hoping to stake a claim for a place on the flight to the Middle East.

However, he returned to Palace having been deprived of any action and was unable to add to the three caps he gained earlier this year.

The disappointment came despite Guehi failing to miss a single minute of action since the campaign got underway thanks to becoming a key member of Palace’s backline.

However, journalist Pete O’Rourke has previously told GIVEMESPORT that the 22-year-old has a ‘good chance’ of bagging a place in England’s World Cup squad despite his lack of game-time during the final international break before the competition gets underway.

Guehi reached the milestone of 50 Palace appearances when former club Chelsea made the trip to Selhurst Park for a London derby on Saturday.

Jones believes Guehi is aware that he will need to be patient when it comes to attempting to break into the forefront of England chief Southgate’s plans.

The journalist does not feel the centre-half will be seeking a move away from Palace in order to give himself a greater chance of breaking into the Three Lions’ best XI.
