Cristiano Ronaldo will not travel with Manchester United for pre-season tour

Cristiano Ronaldo will not travel to Thailand with the rest of the Manchester United squad for the start of their pre-season tour on Friday.

Ronaldo, 37, has not reported for pre-season training this week due to "family reasons". It emerged last week Ronaldo wishes to leave United.

A United spokesperson said: "Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United party scheduled to depart for our pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday. He has been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue.

"Cristiano remains under contract with Manchester United for another season and he is not for sale."

United are still uncertain as to when Ronaldo could link up with the squad as they prepare to embark on a two-week tour of Thailand and Australia.

Ronaldo is unhappy at United's slow transfer market activity and a 25 per cent salary cut that is a consequence of their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Chelsea have expressed interest in signing Ronaldo, having loaned former United striker Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan for the forthcoming season.

United face Liverpool in Bangkok on Tuesday and then travel to Melbourne, where they play Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in Melbourne before taking on Aston Villa in Perth on July 23.

Additional friendlies against Atletico Madrid in Osllo on July 30 and Real Vallecano at Old Trafford on July 31 have also been scheduled.

United fly to Bangkok at 4.30pm on Friday and it is understood new manager Erik ten Hag has informed certain rookies from the academy of their likely inclusion in his squad.
