Cristiano Ronaldo trains with Manchester United teammates following Erik ten Hag criticism

Cristiano Ronaldo has been pictured training with his Manchester United teammates ahead of their Premier League opener at home to Brighton this weekend.

Erik ten Hag's side begin their new league campaign at Old Trafford on Sunday and will be hoping for three points as the perfect springboard for a successful season.

United have been gearing up for the match with a number of training sessions at the club's Carrington complex with Ronaldo one of the stars snapped in the latest training photographs to be released.

The images released on Thursday showed United being put through their paces by Ten Hag ahead of their return to competitive action.

Ronaldo, 37, is still training with the first-team squad a day after he and other stars were slammed by the new United manager for leaving Old Trafford during their pre-season draw with Rayo Vallecano.

The Portuguese forward was seen leaving the club's home stadium along with compatriot Diogo Dalot during their 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, without the permission of Ten Hag to do so.

When asked about Ronaldo leaving the match early, the United manager took the attention away from Ronaldo specifically before condemning the behaviour.

"There were many more who went home," he told Viaplay Sport Nederland. "So you condoned that? Certainly not. It's unacceptable, for everybody.

"I tell them. That it is unacceptable and that we are a team, so a selection. That you have to stay until the end."

Summer signings Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez were also pictured training ahead of their potential competitive debuts this weekend.
