Ex-Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes a tactical shift in the Premier League has prevented his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo from repeating his “jaw-dropping” Real Madrid and Juventus numbers in his second spell at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo has been linked with a summer exit after missing the Manchester derby, with former Red Devils captain Roy Keane casting doubt on the suggestion from interim manager Ralf Rangnick that a hip flexor problem was to blame.

The veteran has top-scored for the club in all competitions this season, having taken up a more central role than he did in his first stint, but is coming nowhere near the tallies he has managed elsewhere.

And Saha, who played with a teenage Ronaldo at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson, suggests a move away from a cross-heavy game is to blame.
