Cristiano Ronaldo's brilliant reaction to Anthony Elanga's goal vs Atletico Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo was among those left delighted by Anthony Elanga's late equaliser for Manchester United in the Champions League knockout clash against Atletico Madrid.

Joao Felix had put the hosts ahead in the Spanish capital but 19-year-old Elanga levelled the tie in the closing stages with his first goal in the competition.

That has left the tie delicately poised ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford next month, though United no longer hold an away-goal advantage due to changes in the competition's rules this season.

Even so, the equaliser from Elanga is a boost for United, and Ronaldo was among the many to express his delight at the effort.

While Ronaldo was unable to make much of an impact in the game himself, to the delight of the home support who gave him a hostile reception due to his long association with city rivals Real Madrid, his celebration was noticeable.

Video footage uploaded on Twitter - and since deleted - showed the experienced forward with his arms aloft, running towards his teammates.

Ronaldo will hope to have a more direct impact in the return leg, which is due to be played in Manchester on March 15.

United will be aiming to seek passage into the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

Ralf Rangnick's side have remarkably only made the last eight of the Champions League twice in the past 10 seasons since finishing runners-up in the competition in the 2010/11 season.

United have been knocked out at the Round of 16 stage twice in that period, losing to Sevilla and Real Madrid.
