While there’s debate over who the greatest player ever is, there can be no doubting who the greatest player in Champions League history is.
The Portuguese has won the competition on five occasions for both United and Real Madrid. He’s the record goalscorer with 140 goals in 181 appearances.

And when the Champions League gets tough, Ronaldo gets going.
In the knockout stages, Ronaldo has scored an impressive 67 goals in 83 appearances.
He will be looking to add to that tally against his former rivals, Atletico Madrid.
But out of all of Ronaldo’s 140 goals scored in the competition, which is his greatest? Actually, of the 800+ goals he’s scored in his entire career, which is his best?
Well if Gary Neville is to be believed, it’s a goal scored in the Champions League for Manchester United against Roma in 2008.
Ronaldo was at the peak of his powers during the 2007/08 season as he helped United win the Premier League and Champions League. He scored 42 goals in all competitions, landing the Ballon d’Or later that year.
And on April 1, 2008, he scored a goal that Neville described as “The best goal I’ve ever seen” in a Champions League quarter-final clash against Roma.
We’re not quite sure on ‘the best goal ever’ but it might just be the best headed goal we’ve ever seen.
