Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd icon shut down journalist in 2016 over goal record
Cristiano Ronaldo is in the mix to be labelled the greatest footballer in history.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has broken records galore over the course of his glittering professional career.
Ronaldo is now recognised as the leading scorer in men’s professional football after he surpassed the great Josef Bican last season.
At the time of writing, the 37-year-old superstar has scored 813 times for club and country. A whopping 117 of those goals have come with Portugal, the most by any male player on the international stage.
The numbers produced by Ronaldo are outrageous and the fact he scored 24 goals across all competitions in a poor Manchester United team during 2021/22 tells you everything you need to know.
Surely no one would dare question him about the fine art of goalscoring, right?
Well, one journalist did just that while Ronaldo was at Real Madrid – a club where he bagged 444 goals in 434 games.
In the build-up to a Champions League knockout tie versus AS Roma in February 2016, the striker was quizzed on the fact he hadn’t scored an away goal since November of the previous year.
So a clearly agitated Ronaldo decided to remind everyone that since he’d moved to Real Madrid, no player had scored more away goals.
He then stormed out of the pre-match press conference, while his manager at the time Zinedine Zidane had a bit of a giggle.
Cristiano Ronaldo's quick counter attack to a journalist for questioning him, look at Zidane's reaction.
