Cristiano Ronaldo in furious tunnel exchange as Man City man and team-mate says he's past his peak

Cristiano Ronaldo has hit the headlines again after his reaction following Portugal's 2-0 defeat to Slovenia on Tuesday. It was their first loss under new boss Roberto Martinez.

Slovenia picked up a surprise win with goals from Adam Cerin and Timi Elsnik. The game was part of a warm-up for the summer's Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, which Portugal have qualified for.

Ronaldo didn't play in Portugal's last match against Sweden due to holiday. Portugal won that game 5-2 without him.

The former Manchester United star was back to play against Slovenia but didn't do much. And the 39-year-old was seen storming off down the tunnel after the game while gesturing angrily.

It comes after Portugal team-mate Joao Cancelo suggested Ronaldo was past his prime and that the "national team does not depend entirely on him". The Man City defender's view was echoed by pundit, former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf.

Cancelo talked to RTP, a radio station in Portugal, and said: "He is an important player and spent 15 years competing with Messi for the Ballon d'Or, but the peak of a footballer's career is between the ages of 25 and 32.

"He is an important player for us, but the national team does not depend entirely on him."

This year's Euros might be the last time Ronaldo appears in a major tournament for Portugal. He helped them win the Euros in 2016, but Leboeuf, who has won lifted the trophy with France, thinks Portugal can only win again if they don't play Ronaldo.

Leboeuf said to BetVictor: "For me, Portugal are actually one of the contenders for this summer's European Championships,".
