Cristiano Ronaldo has been at the heart of debate all season long at Manchester United.

From the moment that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner put pen to paper on an Old Trafford return, there have been sections of the fanbase opining that it was a step in the wrong direction for the club.

More vocal cohorts of the United support would even argue that the club wouldn’t find themselves in their current predicament in a world where they turned down the chance to re-sign Ronaldo.

Perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would still be in charge and leading the club towards Champions League qualification had Ronaldo not completed a crazy summer of incomings for the Red Devils.

At least, that’s how the theory goes, but it is surely one that is receiving fewer and fewer subscribers as Ronaldo continues to score crucial goals in spite of all the hardships faced by United.

The simple fact of the matter is that the 37-year-old has still been nothing short of prolific despite United wading through one of the toughest spells in their recent history under Ralf Rangnick.

Astonishingly, Ronaldo has actually scored eight of United’s last nine goals in the Premier League, including the last five on the bounce.

The Portuguese superstar notched hat-tricks against Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City, before reiterating his brilliance in big games by continuing his streak with goals in the Arsenal and Chelsea clashes.

Marry that to the fact that only Mohamed Salah has scored more goals in England’s top-flight across the 2021/22 campaign and the argument that Ronaldo is the problem at United is certainly a dwindling one.
