Creetown saw off Mid Annandale on penalties after an eight goal Cree Lodge Cup thriller at Castle Cary Park.

The visitors took the lead before Ian Miller equalised, with Mids being reduced to 10 men.

Josh Rennie then put Creetown in front only for Mids to restore parity and force extra-time.

And when the Lockerbie side raced two goals clear it seemed to be game over, only for Rennie and Jamie McHarrie to strike and take the game to penalties, Creetown triumphing 6-5 in the shoot out.

Creetown boss, Jamie Adams, admitted: “Mid Annandale did well and we probably didn’t deserve to win.

“It wasn’t the kind of performance we’ve been putting in the past couple of weeks. We’ve been doing well and it was a bit of an off day, everyone was below the levels they have been.

“Fair play to the boys, with five minutes to go they managed to get a goal and take it to penalties and that was a positive we could take.

“They didn’t give up and kept right until the end. It was just one of those days everybody was 10 per cent off it and that affected us.”

Adams is hoping for better when they head north on Saturday to face Caledonian Braves.

The Lanarkshire-based side regularly consists of French students and has had a delayed start to the season.

Adams said: “They were late starting the season so it’s a bit unexpected. We need to improve and play the way we had been before Saturday. I’m sure if we do that we’ve a chance of getting a positive result but if we don’t then we’ll struggle.

“We’ve got a few boys back from injuries – we’ve a couple of boys with slight knocks but that’s football and that’s what happens. We have plenty of boys to pick from so we should be fine.”
