Craig Levein has 'strong' Dundee United support in dramatic next Tannadice boss twist

Craig Levein could be in line for a sensational return to management at struggling Dundee United.

The former Hearts boss had a stint in the Tannadice dugout between 2006 and 2009 before taking the Scotland manager's job, and currently has a behind the scenes role at Highland League side Brechin City. His last frontline management gig was a duel role as both Hearts manager and director of football, but was eventually sacked in a season where the Jambos got relegated into Championship territory in 2019/20.

United are four points adrift at the bottom of the Premiership and pulled the trigger on Liam Fox after a dismal 4-0 loss to 11th placed Ross County. All that comes amid a backdrop of fan unrest surrounding Tony Asghar's position as sporting director while an interview with owner Mark Ogren has provided more concerns of a drop back into the second tier. Courier Sport report their next boss could be a familiar face in Levein, who has 'strong support for an approach.'

A board meeting has been held after deciding to axe Fox, the second managerial firing of the season after Jack Ross was given his jotters in August. United are reportedly "weighing up an approach" for Levein as "he is seen as the perfect experienced figure to motivate and organise an ailing, underperforming United side."
