Coventry City initiate talks with Chelsea over fresh transfer deal

The 24-year old has enjoyed a successful stint on loan with the club this season.

Now, according to Coventry Live, the Sky Blues are looking to keep the defender on a permanent basis.

It has been claimed that Coventry have offered Clarke-Salter a three-year deal to stay at the club.

But Clarke-Salter has received interest from elsewhere in England, as well as Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

So it will be a competition to earn his signature for next season and beyond.

Nathan Gissing, who covers Chelsea for gianlucadimarzio.com has confirmed that the player has “made no decision yet as he’s concentrating on his football at Coventry.”

Clarke-Salter has featured 24 times in Coventry’s league campaign this season and has been a consistent presence in their solid defence.

The defender has also enjoyed stints with Birmingham City and Sunderland.

Clarke-Salter also spent time playing in the Netherlands with Vitesse Arnhem so could be tempted to move abroad again.

Coventry City are currently 10th in the Championship table, three points outside the top six places.

Next up for Mark Robins’ side is a trip to Swansea City on March 5.

This would be a good move for Coventry if they can get the deal over the line.

The defensive continuity of a team is very important and Clarke-Salter has been a solid performer for the side all season.

They will face competition from other clubs for Clarke-Salter’s signature, but they should have the advantage in that he knows the club quite well.

If they can offer a lucrative contract then it is hard to imagine the defender turning it down.
