Court live updates as trial continues of eight people accused of taking part in Ely riot
The fifth day of the trial of defendants accused of taking part in the Ely riots is due to start. The trial previously heard one of the alleged rioters referred to police as f****** bullies" and called for a police officer to be "euthanised".
The riots in the Cardiff suburb broke out on May 22, 2023, following the deaths of Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, who were killed in a crash while riding an electric bike in Snowden Road.
Lee Robinson, 38, of Heol Deva, Caerau, Luke Williams, 31, of Deere Place, Ely, Jaydan Baston, 21, of Heol Poyston, Caerau, Michaela Gonzales, 37, of Plymouth Wood Close, Ely, McKenzie Danks, 22, of Heol Trelai, Caerau, Jordan Bratcher, 27, of Glyndwr Road, Ely, Zayne Farrugia, 25, of Heol Ebwy, Caerau, and Connor O'Sullivan, 26, of Caerau Court Road, Caerau, have pleaded not guilty to rioting. A trial at Newport Crown Court on Friday, September 26, heard Williams was live streaming the riot on Facebook and was seen walking aggressively along the police line.
He referred to officers as “f****** bullies” and “f****** c****” and “w******”.
The defendant was also heard to say “You kill kids and now you want to lock them up.”
In further footage, he is heard to say: “Go on boys, go on the boys, come on the boys.”
The defendant is then heard to say: “Ha, ha, they’re going to get f***** up now those feds, they’re going to get f***** up, bunch of brave b******* because you’ve got a drone in the sky, you think you’re brave.”
