"Could have an announcement as early as today" – Journalist drops big Tottenham transfer claim

Tottenham are on the verge of making Ivan Perisic their first summer signing, with the attacker undergoing a medical at Hotspur Way today, according to The Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The 33-year-old is expected to pen a two-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Taylor believes the Croatia international could be officially announced as early as this afternoon.

Tottenham’s interest in Perisic first came about last week when ESPN revealed that Antonio Conte’s side were ‘exploring the possibility’ of bringing him to the Premier League.

Conte managed the experience ace during his two seasons at Inter Milan, and Fabio Paratici and co. have moved quickly in delivering the Italian what appears to be his first signing of the upcoming window.

Perisic will arrive in north London on a free transfer, while Tottenham are expected to pay him around £100,000 per-week, which will make him one of their highest-paid players.

The Croatian won three trophies during his time in Milan, including the Serie A title under Conte, while he scored twice in their Coppa Italia Final victory over Juventus earlier this month, including a stunner in extra-time.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Perisic stayed in London last night and he’s undergoing a medical later this afternoon. We could even have an announcement as early as today, although tomorrow is more likely.

“That one moved fairly quickly. He’s a player that Spurs and Conte were looking at two or three months ago from afar, looking at his contract situation with Inter, which obviously broke down fairly quickly last week, which is why it was so easy for Spurs to agree. He’s played under Conte previously, so it was straightforward, no-brainer.”
