Cork's Aaron Hill stuns Mark Selby at Welsh Open

Corkman Aaron Hill has stunned four-time world champion Mark Selby in the Welsh Open second round.

Selby, currently sitting fifth in the world snooker rankings, was beaten 4-2 by Irishman Hill, who is ranked 66th.

The display from 21-year-old Hill impressed Ronnie O'Sullivan, who was on punditry duty for Eurosport.

O’Sullivan said: "He played really well. He’s a strong player. I’ve played him before. (He) hits the ball really well.

"He fancies the job. He walks around the table like, 'I’m here to win’."

Fellow former world champions Mark Williams and Neil Robertson were also knocked out in Llandudno on Wednesday.

Williams was swept aside 4-1 by Anthony McGill in their third-round encounter while Robertson was beaten 4-2 by Ricky Walden.

But current world champion Luca Brecel was on form with a convincing 4-0 win over Joe O’Connor in the second round.

World number three Mark Allen is through to the fourth round after beating China’s Si Jiahui 4-1 while John Higgins beat Ryan Day 4-1 at the same stage.
