"Conte wouldn't stand in his way" - Journalist drops Spurs exit claim on major Mourinho signing

Antonio Conte won’t stop Sergio Reguilon leaving this summer if Tottenham receive a suitable offer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Reguilon has been first choice at Spurs for the majority of his two seasons since signing from Real Madrid in 2020, although there’s recently been doubts for his future.

When Reguilon joined Tottenham, Madrid included a £27.5m buy-back clause in the deal, meaning there have always been whispers about a potential return to the Spanish capital.

During his first few months in the Premier League, that would have felt like a disaster for Spurs, with Reguilon making a fine start to life in English football.

The defender turned out 36 times in his first season, chipping in with an impressive six assists, including one on his debut against Chelsea.

But Reguilon has been unable to kick on in 2021-2022, and until Ryan Sessegnon’s recent injury, he had lost his place in the side at left wing-back to the ex-Fulham youngster.

Therefore, Football Insider believe that Antonio Conte is still not totally convinced by the Spain international and would be open to letting him leave this summer. Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano recently reported that a host of European clubs, including Barcelona, are keeping tabs on him.

Reguilon has started the last three games since Sessegnon got injured, but O’Rourke doesn’t think that Conte would stand in the way of a potential summer exit.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think if the offer was there or Real Madrid decide to take up the buy-back option, I’m sure Conte wouldn’t stand in his way and use the money to improve his defensive options.”
