Chelsea 'open to selling' £76.5m star from Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are likely to be open to selling Romelu Lukaku this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 28-year-old striker only joined the west London club from Inter Milan last August, but things have simply not worked out for him.

A combination of factors are probably to blame for Lukaku’s failure, including the infamous interview with Sky Italia.

However, recently, Thomas Tuchel highlighted the Belgian’s lack of fitness as a reason for why he is finding life at Stamford Bridge so difficult right now.

“After a period of injury, he lacks the fitness for matches but I don’t point the finger on him,” the Chelsea manager said prior to his side’s 4-2 defeat against Arsenal. “It’s just a fact, it’s not even his fault. It is just like this and it’s in the crucial time of the season where you need a certain rhythm.”

Lukaku’s appearance versus the Gunners was just his 13th league start of the season, showing just how underwhelming his second spell in blue has been.

With Lautaro Martinez possibly set to leave Inter this summer, Jones thinks a return to the Nerazzurri could be on the cards. However, according to the transfer insider, Paris Saint-Germain are currently leading the race for his signature as Chelsea become more open to selling their £97.5m signing.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “A knock-on effect of Lautaro leaving could be that Lukaku returns to Inter. At the moment, PSG are most advanced in terms of trying to get him in the summer, but if there is one club that could tempt him, it is Inter.

“I think this could get very interesting, as it’s looking very likely Chelsea will be open to selling him.”
