Conor Sweeney to miss Tipperary's football season after rupturing cruciate ligament

Tipperary footballers have been dealt a blow with the news that their captain Conor Sweeney will miss the rest of the inter-county season after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture.

Sweeney sustained the injury when knocked to the ground late on in last Saturday's Allianz Football League Division 3 loss to Down at FBD Semple Stadium.

The 2020 All Star did stay on the field for a few minutes but eventually was forced off, with Tipp boss David Power now confirming that one of his main forwards will not see action again this term.

Sweeney now joins Conal Kennedy and Paudie Feehan on the Premier injury list in what is another setback for the county as they look to make a push for promotion.

Because of work commitments, Michael Quinlivan, Bill Maher and Jason Lonergan won't be involved in 2023, with the latter pair now abroad. Also out of the country is Colin O'Riordan, who recently returned to Australia. Robbie Kiely announced his retirement last week.

Tipperary face Cavan away in their second league game on Sunday next.
