Conor McGregor vs Khabib: Notorious offering Nurmagomedov a drink before UFC 229

Back in 2018, it truly was an elite time to be a UFC fan.

The Conor McGregor/Khabib Nurmagomedov rivalry can never be replicated. It was unlike anything any combat sports fan had ever had the pleasure to bear witness to.

Putting it simply, both men despised each other. Friends, family and religion were dragged into a feud that had every single UFC fan glued to their screen.

Today, we are throwing it back to this absolute gem of a clip that came out of the much-anticipated press conference between the two bitter rivals.

It so happened to be Khabib’s birthday on the day the pair had their first encounter, and rather politely, the Irishman offered the Russian a celebratory drink of his own Proper Twelve whiskey.

Although the gesture wasn’t as well-mannered as it seemed.

Khabib is a Muslim and doesn’t drink alcohol, and despite refusing his foe’s gift, the Irishman continued to push the liquor closer to him.

“You mad backwards, c***!”

“You’re dead when I get my hands on you!”

Notorious caused quite the stir with the remarks that he made throughout the entirety of this press conference.

Reacting to the press conference, Dana White admitted: “It was the darkest press conference I have ever been a part of.

“You could tell Khabib was boiling inside.”

Opening up on Mike Tyson’s podcast, Khabib labelled Conor as “evil.”

“When [McGregor] talk about this, you know, only evil can talk about your father, wife, kids, religion.

“If you’re normal, you’re never going to talk about this stuff.”

McGregor has a way with words, and throughout the entirety of his career he has used verbal warfare to defeat his opponents before stepping into the cage.
