Conor McGregor teases ‘countdown’ to UFC return as boxing training continues

UFC star Conor McGregor continues to tease a return to the Octagon by suggesting a ‘countdown’ to his next fight has begun.

Nobody knows how to keep MMA fans in suspense quite like Conor McGregor. The Irishman is by far the biggest name in the history of the sport and whether you like it or you don’t, he’s able to play on the emotions of millions purely through the medium of social media.

His latest outing in the UFC came back at UFC 264 last summer when he fell to a second straight defeat at the hands of Dustin Poirier. While he seemed to be in a difficult position heading into the end of the first round, it certainly didn’t help that he suffered a nasty leg break that brought the contest to a halt.

Everyone knew it was going to take a while before we saw him get back to active competition but even with that being the case, fans were more than happy to follow his journey – with the hope being that he could vault straight back into contention upon returning.

Regardless of whether that happens or it doesn’t, Conor appears to be gearing up for something big as the following Instagram shots show.

‘The Notorious’ knows his strongest weapons are the power and timing in his punches and utilising those assets will be key whenever he gets back into the cage.

UFC president Dana White openly admitted in a recent interview that there are currently no plans in place for McGregor’s comeback.

White went on to suggest that any announcement depends on the progress he’s able to continue making, with autumn being pinpointed as a landing spot for him to compete.

McGregor himself may or may not agree with that assessment but either way, it looks like International Fight Week is going to progress without the presence of the former two-weight
