Conor McGregor sees his Katie Taylor fight role made explicitly clear as superfight arrives amid Irish storm

Controversial Conor McGregor will not be in attendance for Katie Taylor's crunch fight after his 'incendiary' comments were branded a disgrace.

The MMA superstar earned widespread condemnation over tweets which stated “Ireland, we are at war” in the wake of a stabbing attack which led into a night of riots in Dublin. Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal Martin was left apoplectic over McGregor's stance which he shared to his millions of followers.

And McGregor will be keeping a low profile on Saturday as he is unlikely to be at ringside for Taylor's rematch with Chantelle Cameron despite his Irish stout acting as a key sponsor for the event. The Irish Olympic hero's promoter Eddie Hearn swerved questions surrounding McGregor's role in the fight and strongly hinted he will be absent from ringside at the 3Arena. Speaking ahead of the big fight. Promoter Eddie Hearn said: "I don't believe he's attending the event.

"I don't speak on his behalf. He's obviously someone that has his own views as everybody does. For us, we're just focused on the event, obviously. We come to Dublin with the aim to grow the sport in this country. It is a celebration for Irish sport."

And Hearn's humming and hawing chimes with Martin's angry verdict over McGregor's stinging words which led to him performing a U-turn over his call to arms aimed at the Irish public. Martin said: “There has been many comments I’ve watched online of that type which are absolutely disgraceful. We have a parliamentary democracy, we value that, Irish people do as well. Isolated voices like that and voices that essentially are inciting hate and to some degree incitement is unacceptable.”
