Conor McGregor claims he wants to ‘explore’ buying Chelsea in £3billion deal amid Roman Abramovich reports
Conor McGregor has thrown his hat in the ring to buy Premier League team Chelsea - for a cool £3billion.
That is the figure being quoted to prospective buyers of the Stamford Bridge club, amid issues for Roman Abramovich’s “stewardship” plan and threats for his UK-based assets to be frozen.
It would take a person with significantly deep pockets to fund a purchase and MMA icon McGregor has now stepped forward, tweeting his interest in making a bid on Tuesday.
The Irishman posted “I wish to explore this” under a screenshot of a WhatsApp message he sent, which read: “Chelsea for sale £3bn. Let’s buy it.”
According to Forbes, McGregor was the world’s highest-paid athlete in 2021 with earnings from UFC fights and sponsorships topping £134million. His total net worth is roughly estimated to be around as high as £300m - some way short of Chelsea’s price tag.
