Connor Barron told Rangers high boot 'identical' to Celtic red card sin as ex referee eviscerates VAR theory

Former SFA whistler Des Roache reckons Rangers midfielder Connor Barron should have been shown a red card for a high challenge during the clash with St Mirren.

The Ibrox star looked to take the ball away from Buddies striker Toyosi Olusanya in the Light Blues' half as he attempted to spark a counter attack. It was a high tackle with the St Mirren frontman going down clutching his face, but referee Calum Scott allowed play to continue while Greg Aitken in the VAR room opted against stepping into recommend that the man in the middle rethinks his decision with the Gers' star escaping without even a yellow card.

But Roache was quizzed on the difference between Celtic star Yang's red card against Hearts last season by a fan via the Behind the Whistles podcast account on X. The winger saw his yellow card for a high boot on Alex Cochrane upgraded to a red by referee Don Robertson after being sent to the monitor to review the flashpoint by John Beaton in Clydesdale House.

Roache responded: "Identical 'tackles' and should have received identical sanctions. We said Yang was right to be sent off, so Barron should also have been sent off. We will look out for this on Wullie’s (Willie Collum, Head of Referee Operations at the SFA) next KMI (Key Match Incident) release."

That undercuts Marvin Bartley's defence of the Rangers man and the match officials - insisting that VAR didn't intervene as there had not been any contact with Olusanya. He told BBC Sportscene: “I don’t think there is that much contact in it.

"It’s definitely a high foot and the intention is there, but Olusanya does him a favour although the throws his hands up in the air. But I think if Barron makes any sort of contact with him there he is going to be shown a red
