Connor Barron dispute goes to SPFL as Rangers and Aberdeen await tribunal date to decide compensation

Rangers and Aberdeen are waiting for Scottish Professional Football League chiefs to set a date for Connor Barron’s compensation tribunal.

The two clubs had been in discussions but have been unable to come to an agreement over a valuation for the Ibrox new boy. It has now been put in the hands of the SPFL who are in the process of setting up a compensation tribunal. Both clubs are now waiting for a date as to when that will be held. Aberdeen are entitled to compensation for Barron because he came through their youth ranks and was only 21 when he made the move to Ibrox in the summer.

The Dons would have been entitled to just over £500,000 in compensation if the midfielder had moved outside Scotland. The rules are different if a player under-23 moves to another club domestically. If a fee can’t be mutually agreed then the SPFL panel will meet to decide the compensation figure. The Dons and Light Blues have both subjected their cases to the league.

Barron has been a regular starter since he made the move to Rangers and he was called up to the Scotland squad for the first time earlier this month. He was a late call-up for the Nations League games with Poland and Portugal although he didn’t play in either game.
