Concern and confusion from locals as murder probe continues into 'unexplained' death

Three men remain in custody arrested on suspicion of murder after an "unexplained" death at the landmark apartment block which looms above Salford Precinct.

At around 10.30pm last night (Friday June 17) emergency services descended upon Briar Hill Court, following concerning reports about a man who was unconscious. Despite being rushed to hospital, the man died a short time later. The man has yet to be identified and a post mortem is still to be carried out.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of murder, while Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that the death is "unexplained" and confirmed that investigations are underway to ascertain the full circumstances of what happened.

With huge red lettering on the side and an arrow pointing towards the shopping precinct below, the 1970, 25-storey building is an instantly recognisable part of Salford's skyline. The block was sold to a private company by Salford council in 1994.

This afternoon, dozens of people buzzed their way in and out but every person spoken to by the Manchester Evening News was at a loss to explain what had happened the night before. A man named Kev stood outside the entrance as several people asked him why police were parked by the bus stop across the road.

Kev shrugged his shoulders and shook his head whenever anyone came to him for information and seemed surprised and concerned when he found out the real reason that officers were there.

Just before 1pm, a plain-clothes detective made his way into the building, carrying evidence bags. Around half an hour later, a uniformed officer followed him.
