Comparing Bruno Guimaraes’ stats with Newcastle’s current midfielders
Having previously signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month, Newcastle have turned to Guimaraes to help their relegation battle under manager Eddie Howe.
The 24-year-old also attracted attention from Arsenal, Manchester United and PSG over recent months but Sky Sports have reported that the Brazil international will undergo a medical in his home country before making the £33million switch to Tyneside.
Guimaraes has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Lyon this season and will surely represent an upgrade on Newcastle’s current midfield options.
He has already played in the Champions League for Lyon, and he has been one of their standout performers this term in central midfield.
Here’s how the Brazilian’s stats from Ligue 1 in 2021-22 stack up against the corresponding Premier League output of Joe Willock, Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff, Issac Hayden and (the latter-day Yaya Toure) Joelinton.
