Community Shield security latest ahead of Manchester United vs Man City amid UK riots

Manchester United and the FA are adopting a business as usual approach to the Community Shield at Wembley, amid widespread riots and chaos around the United Kingdom.

Disorder around the UK has increased over the last week and prime minister Sir Keir Starmer has condemned the riots, promising those involved would face 'the full force of the law'. Greater Manchester have arrested 28 people allegedly involved in rioting across Manchester last weekend and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, released a statement on Wednesday morning to speak out against different locations in London being targeted by protestors.

Thousands of United and Manchester City fans will descend onto London on Saturday for the Community Shield at Wembley and some may have concerns about disorder. However, United are approaching the fixture with a business-as-usual approach and club sources have said their security plans remain watertight ahead of the Community Shield.

Sources elsewhere have confirmed the FA are not aware of any threats to the safety of fans attending Wembley, or to local residents in the area, in the build-up to the game. At present, it's understood there is no intel of any planned marches or demonstrations, but the FA are working closely with the police and local authorities should any further information arise.
