Commonwealth Games viewing guide: Canadians to watch this weekend
Canada wasted no time getting on the board at the Commonwealth Games, winning a gold and two bronze on the first day of medal competition in Glasgow, Scotland.
The gold came in gymnastics, where Felix Dolci, William Émard, Ethan Ikeda, Jordan Carroll and René Cournoyer won the men's team event over defending champion England. Dolci, who helped Canada take silver at the 2022 Games, also placed first in qualifying for the individual all-around event.
A pair of Para swimmers took bronze, with world champion Mary Jibb reaching the podium in the women's 200m individual medley SM10 category before Jack Gill followed suit in the men's 100m butterfly S10.
