Colm Lyons to take charge of All-Ireland hurling final

Cork official Colm Lyons will take charge of his first senior All-Ireland hurling final after he was confirmed as the man in the middle for this month's showpiece between Kilkenny and Limerick.

A member of the Nemo Rangers club, Lyons has taken charge of a number of games in this year’s championship, including Galway v Kilkenny in the Leinster championship, two Munster championship games and Clare’s quarter-final win over Wexford.

He also refereed Waterford v Tipperary and Clare v Wexford in the league.

Lyons has built up strong experience to reach this point, having refereed the All-Ireland minor final in 2012, Galway’s league final win over Tipperary in 2017, the Leinster final of 2017, and the All-Ireland club finals in 2018 and 2020.

This year’s All-Ireland semi-finals were refereed by Fergal Horgan – who took charge of last year’s decider – and Waterford’s Thomas Walsh.

Galway's Liam Gordon will be the standby referee. The other linesman is Paud O'Dwyer (Carlow) and the sideline official will be Michael Kennedy (Tipperary).

There has been a change to the match officials for Sunday's Tailteann Cup final between Cavan and Westmeath.

Maurice Deegan had been named to take charge of the inaugural final, but has been replaced by Derry's Barry Cassidy.
