The College Football Playoff is still a long way away, but there was still plenty of action in Week 1 that could come into consideration at the end of the season.

Ohio State already got a signature win by shutting down Arch Manning and Texas in Columbus. Brian Kelly and LSU got their season started with a comeback win over Clemson. Alabama went to Tallahassee and got more than it asked for. The Crimson Tide trailed Florida State for most of the afternoon and lost by two scores. Miami won a squeaker against Notre Dame. And Boise State, coming off a CFP appearance, was blown out 34-7 by South Florida.
Some teams handled their business. Penn State, Georgia, Arizona State, Michigan and Florida all won handily.
