Coleman edges favoured countryman Lyles in anticipated men's 60m at indoor worlds

In the most anticipated event of the world indoor championships on Friday, star sprinter Noah Lyles was upset by fellow American Christian Coleman in the men's 60-metre.

"I had a lot of confidence in myself coming in, I set my mind on letting my body do what I have been doing in practice and I came out with a win," Coleman said. "I can look forward to the rest of the summer [including the Paris Olympics]."

Lyles, who captured three gold medals at last summer's outdoor world championships, was trying to become the first man this century to win world titles at 60, 100 and 200 metres in the same year.

"I've never had an indoor season this great, I've never been to a world indoors," he added. "It only makes me so much more excited because [the first 60m] is the worst part of my race.

"I'm ready to take this newfound 60 ability and put it into the 100."
