Cole Palmer makes honest Man City transfer admission after £40m Chelsea move

Cole Palmer has revealed he did not want to leave Manchester City prior to completing a deadline day move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Palmer, 21, completed a £40million move from the Etihad Stadium to Stamford Bridge in August and has since hit the ground running in London, with eight goals and seven assists across his 21 appearances for the club. It is a start that not even he envisaged when he decided to join Mauricio Pochettino's squad.

"I wanted to get into the team, play and show what I can do," he told Sky Sports. "But to get in the team straight away and hit the ground running has surprised me to be fair."

Despite his strong performances on the pitch, Chelsea are still struggling to piece the individual pieces amongst the squad together to find a winning formula, with Palmer and his teammates currently dwelling in tenth place across the Premier League standings. In comparison to his former club City, who are once again challenging for the league title this season in third place, with a game in hand on the teams ahead of them.

Speaking on his exit from City in the summer, Palmer made an honest admission about his plans in Manchester prior to the move to London. "My thing was to never leave City," he said. "That was not my intention. I wanted to go on loan for a year, come back and be ready for the first team. But they said I couldn't go on loan, either stay or you get sold.

"So then, Chelsea rang me. I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I'm really happy to be here. I'm very glad I made the decision to come here."
