Cole Palmer credits change in manager for Chelsea form after Man City transfer exit

Cole Palmer admits he didn't expect his electric form since swapping Manchester City for Chelsea, crediting manager Mauricio Pochettino for 'giving him the freedom' to express himself.

Palmer made the decision to leave the Premier League and European Champions in the summer, making the £42m move to Chelsea in search of more regular games. He has not looked back, scoring 12 goals and registering nine assists in 28 appearances at Stamford Bridge.

The City academy graduate scored against the Blues in the entertaining 4-4 draw earlier this season, and said last week that he wants to prove City were wrong to sell him. Now, he has told Chelsea club media that faith from his new manager has been the secret behind his brilliant form.

"I have been surprised by how well it’s gone here so quickly, but I always back myself to succeed," Palmer said.

"When I made the decision to come down here with my family it was a really tough decision to leave, but I felt like I was ready to play week in, week out and showcase my ability. So thank you to the club and everyone who has supported me.

"It’s down to the manager giving me the freedom, the club giving me the opportunity and the lads, who have been great with me since I came in. I’ve settled fast so I’m enjoying it here."
