Cody Rhodes: Last-minute changes made to WWE return

At WrestleMania 38 last weekend, Cody Rhodes made his sensational return to WWE, defeating Seth Rollins.

Cody’s return was so huge because in 2019, in case you weren’t aware, he helped launch WWE’s biggest competitor since WCW.

Rhodes was one of the key figures behind AEW, and it seemed highly unlikely that he’d ever return to WWE, but here we are.

And now, more has come to light about his first appearance on WWE Raw in six years, which took place last week.

Fightful Select is reporting that Rhodes’ promo was scripted, but the 36-year-old did have a lot of input into what was said.

The report also explained that Rhodes’ presentation is very much expected to stay the same, which will be music to the ears of people who liked how he looked in AEW.

However, the most interesting part of the report explained that there were actually some late changes made to Rhodes’ return promo.

If you watched the show, you’ll know that Cody opened proceedings, but that wasn’t how WWE originally planned for things to do.

Fightful notes that there was some internal debate about what would open the show, and what would close it, with Cody being pencilled in as the main event at one stage.

On Monday, the Cody Rhodes segment was scripted to go on last, even appearing internally as such until about a little after 7 PM EST. We weren’t told a reason the Cody and Reigns segments were flipped

Cody Rhodes is set to wrestle his first WWE Raw match since May 2, 2016 on tonight’s show when he goes one-on-one with The Miz.

The match won’t lead to a proper feud, if reports are to be believed, with Rhodes apparently set to continue his stoyrline with Seth Rollins heading into WrestleMania Backlash.
