Coco Gauff says she is in the “toughest part” of the tennis calendar

Coco Gauff may have found a way to become more “stress-free” recently, but she is starting to feel the strain of the final months of the WTA Tour this year.

The rising tennis star is currently competing at the San Diego Open, and could potentially have another two tournaments coming up before the end of the year.

Throughout 2022, she reached the French Open final as both a singles and doubles competitor and is now ready to shift her attention to restarting in January.

Gauff is competing in San Diego in both the singles and doubles.

Alongside partner Jessica Pegula, she has already booked her place in the doubles quarter-finals after receiving a bye through the first round and beating Chinese duo Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan in the second.

Gauff will face compatriot Robin Montgomery in the first round of the singles tournament on Wednesday as she searches for her third career title.

As well as focusing on her form in San Diego, the world number eight is almost certain to compete at the WTA Finals at the end of this month as well.

There is also the question of whether she will represent Team USA at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

It is a possibility that Gauff may opt to miss the tournament in Glasgow due to the packed schedule coming up. The BJK Cup Finals are set to get underway on November 8th, just one day after the WTA Finals in Austin, Texas come to a close.

These closely scheduled competitions will round off what has already been a busy calendar for the players. Gauff believes this final stretch towards the end of the year is always the hardest to push through.

“I definitely think this is the toughest part of the season for everyone,” she said in a recent interview.
