Coatbridge restaurant's Ceann Creige Hurling and Camogie Club sponsorship labelled 'life-saver'

Ceann Creige Hurling and Camogie Club are celebrating a sponsorship deal with Coatbridge restaurant Shimla Cottage.

The Indian cuisine specialists will sponsor the front of Ceann’s youth team training kits that will also be work on matchdays.

Founded on in April 2019, the club look to provide inclusion into a community for youth, regardless of their background.

Chairperson Liam Luporini believes it’s a much-needed boost for them and its youngsters - some of whom hail from the town - as it’s a potential ‘life-saver’ for them.

He explained: “It’s great that a local Coatbridge business is giving back to a local voluntary club.

“It’s critical for us. We operate in an area of deprivation, one of the poorest in Scotland. We’re trying to provide a level playing field for people to take part, regardless of financial situations.

“Having a sponsor allows the kids to come along and have that bit of uniformity. It makes them feel included and there is no class divide.

“We take kids from the age of four up to 16. We are really diverse with a range of nationalities. We do a lot of schools work. That is critical to introducing the sport to people for the first time. .

“It’s about providing opportunity and a community where everyone can come regardless of circumstance.

“It helps connect people not only to the local community, but to each other too. It’s a life-saver for us.”
