Coach Plummer confident Proteas will be match-ready as hosts chase a World Cup medal

South Africa coach Norma Plummer is confident her side will be match-ready ahead of next month's Netball World Cup in Cape Town.

With the World Cup just over a month away, the Proteas, who have not played competitively since January's Quad Series in which they went winless against New Zealand, Australia and England, will assemble for a training camp in Stellenbosch on 14 July.

Australian Plummer, who resides in Melbourne, will fly out to South Africa to join the team then.

The World Cup runs from 28 July to 6 August at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

Most members of the national side have been involved with their respective domestic teams in the ongoing Telkom Netball League (TNL) in Polokwane.

"Obviously, that'll be an advantage if we did [get more game time], but you can sit back and whinge about what you haven't got or you can actually be positive about what you do have," Plummer told reporters in a press conference on Tuesday.

"At this stage, we've put a lot of work into a lot of those players. We have a mixture of experienced players as well as some of the new kids on the block, who are real talent. I'm quite impressed with them.

"I think the blend is good, the senior players certainly understand what's required when we get there in July.

"I know a lot of them are doing extra sessions away from their clubs as far as what they need to do. I have every confidence that everybody's going to turn up on the 14th of July ready to actually have a very good camp prior to the World Cup."
